Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving is a way for staff to give a regular amount of money to charity every month by having your donations deducted directly from your salary. The money is deducted before tax is calculated.

Who can I donate to?

You are free to choose any recognised charity, church or charitable organisation and you can make donations to more than one of these each month. Cardiff University staff’s Social and Community Action Network is supporting the Alzheimer's Society - Cardiff and the Vale Branch and their address is given on the form available on this page.

How does it work?

Payments to a charity via Payroll Giving must be made through an approved agency. You will need to complete the form authorising the donations from your salary to the charity/charities of your choice and return the form in the post to the agency. The agency then collects the Payroll Giving donations directly from your salary and distributes them to the charities you nominate until you direct them otherwise.

The payroll giving form can also be used to make any future alterations.

Which agency will be used?

All recognised Payroll Giving agencies charge administration fees. In some cases the employer pays the administration fee but in the case of the University we are unable to use our public money do that. However, we have chosen South West Charitable Giving to operate our scheme as they have agreed to reduce their normal charge to only 3% to reflect this fact. So for every donation you make 97% goes to your nominated charity and 3% (up to a maximum of £10) goes to the agency. South West Charitable Giving will provide general information to the University on how much money has been donated to which charities although you can require that your choice of charity is kept confidential.
