Lady Lynn Jones Parry

Lady Lynn Jones Parry has a broad experience of senior teaching posts, both in the UK and abroad, while also contributing fully to the work of the Diplomatic Service and supporting her husband, Sir Emyr.

Lady Lynn is a Zoology honours graduate from Cardiff, where she was Vice President of the Students’ Union from 1968/69. As a teacher, Head of Department and Head of House, she delivered outstanding results for pupils in both state and private sector schools. She has taught in Canada, where she also obtained a Masters in Counselling, and in Belgium, where she was Head of the Biology Department at the British School of Brussels.

She maintained her professional career while also making a substantial contribution to her husband’s work in five overseas postings, culminating in his appointment as British Permanent Representative to the United Nations. This involved developing contacts, working with governments and officials, and ultimately, as Ambassadress to NATO and then to the UN, running two of Britain’s most important Diplomatic Residences, in Brussels and New York.

Lady Lynn served as President of the British and Commonwealth Society between 2001-3 in Brussels. In New York, she was President of the Women’s International Forum of the UN and a Board Member of Off the Record, the New York arm of the prestigious Foreign Policy Association. She also gave a series of lectures on DNA and genetics, inspiring interest in the subject among New York adults with no previous background in Biology.

Lady Lynn was also a Board Member and volunteer for the family support charity Homestart in London. Her interests include education, current affairs and politics, reading and sport. She and Sir Emyr have two married sons, Mark and Paul.
