Uganda
Background
Cardiff University enjoys welcoming students from Uganda every year to the University, to join our thriving West African community.
Our Country Manager, Mrs Rhian Curtis, visits Uganda at least once a year to conduct interviews with interested students, and has attended exhibitions with both the British Council and our educational agents.
Alumni from Cardiff University have made some remarkable achievements in Uganda, and it has been a pleasure to hear that many of our former students now hold great jobs, including positions in government ministries, in the private sector, the financial sector, Medical practices and academia, to name but a few! We are proud that our Cardiff students are doing so well and representing the University at the highest levels.
Cardiff University has a historic link with the prestigious Makarere University, with Cardiff’s School of Dentistry working closely with many healthcare specialists and the Ministry of Health, to devise a new curriculum at the University.

Requirements for entry onto programmes at Cardiff University
Undergraduate
- We accept students who hold international A-levels or the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A-level) with strong grades (however, please view your individual subject, as grades and subject requirements do vary from course to course).
- We also accept students with the International Baccalaureate qualification.
- Admission on to Bachelors courses can also be gained by successful completion of a Foundation programme from a recognised and reputable institution.
Postgraduate taught
- We accept students who can prove successful completion of an Undergraduate programme in a related field, with strong grades. The majority of subjects will require a minimum of an Upper Second (2.1) grade at undergraduate, although there are some exceptions, so applicants are encouraged to check their individual course requirements. Work experience can also contribute towards gaining a placement in many subjects also.
Postgraduate research
- An MSc degree with a high grade, particularly in the research elements. A full research proposal should also be prepared, and we advise that you explore the website of the academic school where you wish to study, and search for any supervisors whose areas of interest match your own research interests. We advise that you contact the relevant supervisors to introduce yourself and your research just prior to submitting your application, attaching your completed research proposal.
English language requirements
- For the purposes of English language, we would ask for a minimum of a C grade in your Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE or O-level), or IGCSE if you are studying the international system.
