Cardiff has one of the UK's biggest shopping centres with c.70 million shoppers each year. Ranging from independent stores to designer chains you are sure to find the perfect souvenir!
Cardiff's city centre is the sixth most visited shopping destination in the UK and is helpfully compact. Much of the downtown core is also pedestrianised.
It is also only five minutes walk from the University campus. It is almost unique in the UK to have a campus with a quiet, study atmosphere, so close to a bustling downtown area.
Cardiff's most characterful shopping streets are the beautiful Victorian arcades which contain small boutiques, independent stores, coffee shops and bookstores.
St David's and St David's 2 are Cardiff's mall complexes both in the city centre, the latter of which is a recent £675 million development. Inside you will find large chain stores such as Apple, Marks & Spencer and HMV, in addition to chain restaurants for every taste.
Cardiff market in a Victorian building in the city centre is a great place to visit for a more traditional and old-fashioned local shopping atmosphere. It is also a good location to get cheap and fresh vegetables, fish and meat.
There are other shopping streets in Cardiff, like City Road, Crwys Road and Albany Road (all in the student neighbourhoods) that will also have a good range of shops, coffee shops and restaurants.
There are also large supermarkets where you can buy food and household items (including an IKEA). These are usually on the outskirts, so it is a good idea to go with other students by bus or taxi.
