Part-time Employment

Many postgraduates decide to undertake some paid employment while pursuing their studies. However, please bear in mind when considering part-time work opportunities that you need to be able to balance the demands on your time in order to get the most out of your studies and your experience as a postgraduate student.

The Unistaff Jobshop

You are currently permitted to work while enrolled as a postgraduate student. One popular option is the Unistaff Jobshop. The Jobshop is run by the Student's Union, and offers you casual employment in the University and surrounding area. You will need to sign up with the Jobshop in advance of undertaking any employment via this scheme.

More generally, there are plenty of opportunities for students seeking part-time work in Cardiff, usually in shops, bars and restaurants. How easy you find it to get work will depend on many factors like how flexible your study hours are, how many hours you can work outside your studies, and whether or not you have work experience.

International Students

International students from a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA) are no longer required to obtain permission to work but are limited to a maximum of 20 hours a week in term time; they are allowed to work an unlimited number of hours during university vacations. For further details please see our international students website.
