The Cardiff University Teachers Conference will take place on Friday 11th July 2014.
The conference is a free, one day event designed to provide you with current, relevant information on issues relating to higher education, and exciting new developments at Cardiff University.
As you will note, we have guest speakers attending from UCAS and the Higher Education Careers Service Unit. There is a choice of workshops depending on your interest, including the opportunity to find out more about the admission and selection processes of a Russell Group university. This year, we are also offering a Special Educational Needs (SEN) strand of workshops for attending SEN coordinators.
The programme also includes a choice of interactive Academic School tours. This is an excellent opportunity for you to try your hand at something new, whilst learning about some of the great courses on offer here at Cardiff.
Available tours are:
Cardiff Business SchoolEver fancied playing the stock market? Buy and Sell without a conscience and take a crash course in trading from the Sir Julian Hodge Professor of Banking and Finance, in our real-life Trading Room.

Cardiff School of EngineeringElectric Skills: From Faraday to the Formula 1 racing car, this hands-on session will explain how electricity powers every aspect of our lives. Take the experiments back to your classroom once you’ve mastered them and pass them onto your students.
Cardiff School of History, Archaeology and ReligionFancy a make over? Come and sample Cleopatra’s Cosmetics with our Doctor of Ancient History. Try some re-created ancient cosmetics and learn how historians and archaeologists study recipes from the past.

Cardiff School of Nursing & Midwifery and Cardiff School of Healthcare StudiesTake a tour of our outstanding new facilities. See our purpose-built Clinical Simulation and Mock Operating Suites; and find out what happens in the Mould Room with the mysterious renovating skin machine.
Cardiff School of Physics & Astronomy Is there anybody out there? A budding Brian Cox perhaps?! Cast your eye up into the stars with our very own astronomical observing facilities. A chance to observe our humble beginnings in space from earth. You are welcome to pass this invitation on to colleagues whom you feel may benefit from one of our tours.
Lunch will be provided for visiting teachers and careers advisers and there will be an opportunity to meet admissions tutors, collect course literature and speak to current students throughout the day.
Please note that places for this event are likely to be taken up very quickly and we will therefore operate a first-come first-served booking policy. We therefore recommend that you book your place no later than Friday 27th June 2014. Bookings can be made online at www.cardiffconference2014.eventbrite.co.uk.
I hope that you will be able to join us and I look forward to welcoming you to Cardiff University.
