Local Travel and Transport

This section provides information and advice on travel and transport to work and between campuses, together with useful links.

Cycling
The University has adopted an official bike strategy for cyclists which will look into larger and more visible bike racks, better signing of routes, more drying rooms for wet clothing and a map of bike user’s facilities around campus. For more information on cycling to work, please visit the cycling website, or contact the Bicycle Users Group at CUBUG@cardiff.ac.uk for further information.

Lift share scheme

The Liftshare Scheme is an integral part of Cardiff University’s Travel Plan. It is a free and private scheme available to all Cardiff University staff and students, allowing you to find people to share your car, walking or cycling journey.

By sharing your car journey, you will be benefitting from the convenience of travelling by car; saving money by reducing mileage and petrol costs and alleviating parking problems, congestion and pollution

So if you would like to save some money by sharing your travel costs, or perhaps find companions to walk or cycle with, join today! The larger the database, the greater the chance of finding a match – so please encourage your colleagues to join too!

NCP, Dumfries Place
University staff are entitled to reduced rates for NCP car parking in Dumfries Place when signing up for a contracted period. Staff are provided with a key card that gives full access to the site. For more information on joining the scheme please contact Mrs Tammy Turnock on 07801 916390, (Tammy.Turnock@ncp.co.uk), or visit the car park office at the NCP Dumfries Place car park. A current valid University ID card is a required to take advantage of this offer.

Parking in Cardiff
Many of the streets surrounding the University Building operate a pay and display parking system. The pay and display machines accept either cash or cards. For more information on parking in the city centre, please visit Cardiff County Council’s website.

Public Transport
Purchasing tickets for public transport weekly, monthly, three-monthly, annually, or to correspond with school term times entitles you to reduced rates. Arriva Trains Wales now offer an online Season Ticket service which enables you to retrieve online quotes, order tickets online, arrange for tickets to be delivered to your door and offers a replacement service if your train ticket is lost or stolen. Visit Cardiff Bus or Arriva Trains Wales websites for further information on ticket prices and travel information.

Cardiff Bus operates a frequent service between the Cathays Campus and the Heath Site. Please click here to view a weekly timetable. The buses that operate between the Heath Site and the City Centre are the numbers 8, 9 and 9a.
