Cardiff University Research Staff Association (CURSA) Policy Forum

09 October 2013, 12:30 - 14:30

The University held its fourth Research Staff Policy Forum on 09 October 2013, this event informed research staff of any career-related developments that affected them, whilst also giving them the opportunity to feed into University policy. The event, which included a buffet lunch, focused on UK and University strategic and policy developments affecting the career development of research staff across Cardiff University.

The aims of the Research Staff Policy Forum are:

  • to provide information about the support available for research staff and the University’s policy and obligations to them, both Institution-wide and at School level;
  • to increase awareness of national developments in relation to the management and career development of research staff;
  • to provide research staff with the opportunity to meet and discuss their experiences with other researchers from across the Institution, and to feed their views into the management structure of the University.

The forum was chaired by Dr Lee Parry, chair of the Cardiff University Research Staff Association (CURSA). There was an update on recent developments and future plans, as well as an overview of the results of last summer’s Careers in Research Online Survey.

Professor Elizabeth Treasure, Deputy Vice-Chancellor joined us to give us an update on the University’s “Way Forwards” plans and the new college structure and was available for Q&A.

The event was free-of-charge to all staff employed on research-only contracts and was funded by the additional monies received from the UK Research Councils for the career development training of its research staff.

Attendance at the Forum is an excellent opportunity for research staff to meet other researchers from across the institution, to ensure that their views are heard by the University’s senior management, to hear the most up-to-date news, and to comment on the University’s progress.
