Hands-on science activities and an interactive regional event are two of the topics that will be discussed at the inaugural meeting of a new science networking group held at Cardiff University (5 September).
The South Wales Science Alliance is an informal group where science communicators can meet one another, share ideas and learn from each others' experience.
Cardiff University is one of 36 member organisations who have joined Science Alliance and will host the first meeting of the group in the University’s Main Building. Meetings will be held quarterly thereafter and hosted by a different institution each time.
The aim of the group is to offer support to individuals and groups involved in the active promotion of science, and to develop initiatives for public engagement events.
Topics ranging from science to engineering, medicine to technology will all be covered at the meetings, and guest speakers from across the science spectrum will present lectures and introduce discussions and debate on a number of science based themes.
Catherine Beddoe is the administrator for Science Alliance: "The South Wales Science Alliance provides an excellent opportunity for science communicators to meet and share ideas. We have been thrilled with the positive response received from organisations across South Wales. Already, nearly 80 individual members have joined and we have received enough offers to host future meetings until September of next year. We look forward to the first meeting being held at Cardiff University."
