The Carducci String Quartet, the University’s Ensemble-in-Residence, will be taking to the stage for several public performances in 2010.
Recognised internationally as one of today’s most exciting young string quartets, the group has established an enthusiastic world-wide following. They will be performing more than 90 concerts around the world during the 2009-10 season, including several in Cardiff as part of the School of Music’s Chamber Concert Series.
The Quartet plays the University Concert Hall on Tuesday 26 January at 7.30pm. They will be joined by Nicolas Daniel on oboe who will perform Mozart’s Oboe Quartet and Bliss’s Oboe Quintet. This is the Quartet’s second year as resident ensemble at the University and they will be playing two further concerts at the University Concert Hall on 2 March and 16 March 2010.
The Quartet is: Matthew Denton (violin), Michelle Fleming (violin), Eoin Schmidt-Martin (viola), and Emma Denton (cello). They have won the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York, the Kuhmo International Chamber Music Competition, and major prizes at the Bordeaux, London and Osaka competitions.
