Six members of University Sport staff are aiming to complete 24 hours continuous exercise to raise money for the charity, Help for Heroes.
The team will undertake the ‘Gym for Heroes’ challenge, which equates to completing up to eight consecutive marathons, at the University Fitness & Squash Centre on Friday 22nd July.
Richard Jones, Greg Bassam, James Fooks, Steve Williams, Beth Winstanley and Taz Ebrahim are all from the University’s Fitness & Squash Centre and will aim to complete the full 24 hours using specific cardiovascular equipment with only essential rests allowed. Although there is no official competitive nature to the event, there will certainly be some friendly rivalry to see who can cover the further distance as the team aim to raise as much as possible for the charity.
Team members Leila Hughes and Stephanie Hislop will aim to complete the 12 hour challenge the day before.
Cardiff University staff as well as the public can also step up to the challenge by visiting the University Fitness and Squash Centre from now until 5th August where they will be able to attempt the 3, 6 or 12 hour challenge. All they have to do is register on the Gym for Heroes website at www.gymforheroes.com using the code for the gym - GFGH291.
"Gym for Heroes" is a nationwide challenge that is held in fitness centres and gyms to raise money for the charity which was formed to help those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.
To support the charity by sponsoring the Cardiff team visit www.bmycharity.com/24hr - all money raised will go to the charity.
