Dr Who star David Tennant with Dr Andy Tee

More than 2000 people have taken part in a series of ‘hands-on’ public events organised by the University to celebrate National Science and Engineering Week. (7-16 March 2008)

Nanotechnology, psychology, climate change and chemistry were just some of the areas brought to life for audiences through interactive and accessible talks, lectures and workshops.

One event in particular, Dr Who: Fact or Fantasy proved so popular that an extra session was scheduled to meet the demand from interested members of the public.

Rhianne Attwood, of the School of Physics and Astronomy presented Dr Who: Fact or Fantasy: "The event attracted people of all ages, from school children growing up with the current Doctor Who series, to the older generation who remember the earlier years", said Rhianne.

"The science of Doctor Who is a great topic to discuss, because it allows us to look at the laws of physics and whether we can use them to explore such exciting technology as used by the Doctor."

The events which were co-ordinated by the University’s Community Engagement Team celebrated not only National Science and Engineering Week but also Brain Awareness Week and the Festival of Social Science.
