Introduction to Museum Environment - 10 credits (HS2322)

An introduction to factors such as light, relative humidity and pollutants, which all contribute to the decay of cultural material housed in the museum environment, forms the focus of this module. Interaction of materials with their surroundings is examined and methods of monitoring and controlling the environment are identified and discussed. Developments of methodologies for collections care are explored.

METHODS OF TEACHING: Seven 1hr lectures, two, 2 hour lectures.  one optional practical class one field trip.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: One 1 hour examination (Autumn) (50%), 1 assessed essay (50%).
