History Department: Year One Enrolment
Welcome to History at Cardiff
Congratulations on your A Level results and gaining a place to study History at Cardiff. This is the beginning of an important new phase in your life whether you have come to Cardiff straight from school, or after a gap year, or after a number of years pursuing a career or other life paths. We hope to help introduce you to your period of study at Cardiff with as little difficulty as possible.
Now that you have secured a place, we will have written to you with details of our degree programmes and your personal tutors will advise you further when you come to Cardiff during enrolment week. However, if you encounter any problems in understanding the web or written instructions please contact us directly either by emailing Lisa Watkins, the History Administrator (WatkinsLJ3@cardiff.ac.uk) or by phoning 029 20874470, or call into the School office in room 4.54 in the Humanities Building where we are based.
All students at Cardiff University must enrol (register and pay fees) online. Cardiff University’s Registry will have contacted you by e-mail (or letter) advising you that the online task is available for you to complete. The task can be accessed via SIMS online at http://sims.cardiff.ac.uk. Instructions are available on the University Registry Online Enrolment Information page.
Please read the further information on enrolling in the Humanities on the Humanities and Social Studies Enrolment and Subject Guide page.
To help explain the degree structure and what to expect in your First Year at Cardiff, there will be a Welcome Talk on Tuesday 25th September at 9.00am in John Pryde Lecture Theatre, Room C/1.01, Bio-Sciences building (no. 35 on map). Click here for a map of the University.
Enrolling in the History Department
When you come to enrol in the University on Tuesday 25th September you will meet with your Personal Tutor in History who will be available from 10am. Information on who your Personal Tutor is and their room number can be found on the Year One notice board, which is next to Rm 4.29 on the fourth floor of the Humanities Building. At this meeting, your Personal Tutor will explain the enrolment process and help you select your programme of study for the year.
To make this process work better, before you see your Personal Tutor please take a little time to study the Humanities & Social Studies Year One Enrolment & Subject Guide on the Humanities and Social Studies Enrolment and Subject Guide page and check the subject timetable groups to ensure that these do not clash.
Module Enrolment: do not enrol for your optional modules on SIMS online before meeting your History Personal Tutor or before attending School enrolment on Wednesday 26th September.
